I love this idea, borrowed from Andi of Misadventures with Andi, of sharing a snapshot in time–what I’m currently doing, thinking, dreaming and more.
Do you ever wonder about the person on the other side of the computer screen? The one writing these words? Whose book you want to buy? What we would talk about over a cup of coffee? Hopefully you answered yes to all of those. Because I’m going to share with you what’s going on with me right now, and hopefully in the coming months.
I’m reading: Scary Old Sex by Arlene Heyman. Heyman is a psychiatrist writing about sex and life and love. I’m loving these short stories about the ways we express ourselves sexually, in part because she’s writing real stories about older people.
I’m listening to: Taj Mahal and Levon Helm. Both artists with aging voices that hold charm and appeal for me. Taj is guaranteed to get me moving, just a little. I’ve seen him live twice and think he’s one sexy guy. Levon Helms, of The Band fame, was a great singer and storyteller–Loving Ramble at the Ryman.
I’m watching: Midsomers Murders, a light-hearted British mystery series, easy watching with plenty of twists and turns. I’m also watching Awake, a series I found on Netflix–a slightly confusing series about a detective with a dead wife, or is it a dead son? It’s a psychological tale, wrapped in a detective show, that keeps me alert as I try to figure out if he’s awake, or in the dream life he’s created.
I’m heading to: New Mexico for the rest of July. A week-long writing retreat in Taos and two weeks in Santa Fe. Reading, exploring, painting, writing, daydreaming….
Sex ramblings: What makes couples stop having sex? How does “not tonight” becomes “not this month, not this year…”? And how can I help? I’m thinking about suggestions for the partner who wants to reconnect and is struggling with how to proceed.
Things I’m pondering: Why the refrigerator spits out crushed ice when I hit the cube button. Who wants crushed ice in their gin and tonic? The same frig that moans like a whore; well, more like a distraught ghost. Bright colors–fuchsia, orange, deep reds and purples. Color… Pink, a lot of pink. My book cover is soft pink so everything pink catches my eye right now. Roads untraveled, literally and figuratively. Where I’d like to be this time next year. Christopher Walken’s hair–I just watched the PBS series, Worricker. How we got so vagina-obsessed as a culture that women pay $1500 to get a blood transfusion, of sorts, shot in the vagina. Labioplasty, and other not-so-healthy procedures women are undergoing to make themselves more sexually appealing. Long kisses and sunsets—the sunsets in Santa Fe are spectacular. Kisses? One of the best things about intimacy in my opinion.
What one thing is happening in your life that you want to share?
